Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome! We've answered the most common questions about our sewing patterns, downloads, and sewing tips. If you don't find your answer here, feel free to contact us!

Getting Started

❓ I've never sewn before. Can I really use your patterns?

Absolutely! That's exactly who we design our patterns for. Over 70% of our customers are complete beginners. We specialize in EASY patterns with video tutorials, step-by-step photos, and detailed instructions. Start with patterns marked "EASY" like the Megg Headband (15-30 minutes!) or Ribb Beanie.

❓ Which pattern should I start with as a beginner?

We recommend starting with one of these super beginner-friendly patterns:

  • Megg Headband - The easiest project ever! Takes 15-30 minutes
  • Ribb Beanie - Simple hat with video tutorial
  • Mimi Baby Booties - Quick and adorable
  • EASY Softshell Pants - Perfect first garment project

❓ Do I need a special sewing machine?

No! A basic home sewing machine is perfect. You don't need anything fancy or expensive. For knit fabrics, a serger is helpful but not required - we show you how to sew knits on a regular machine.

About Our Patterns

❓ What's included in each pattern?

Every pattern includes:

  • PDF pattern file with all sizes (usually ages 0-15 years)
  • Both A4 format (print at home) and A1 format (copy shop)
  • Detailed written instructions with step-by-step photos
  • Video tutorial (free with most patterns!)
  • Fabric recommendations and shopping list
  • Size chart and measurement guide

❓ Are video tutorials really included for free?

Yes! Most of our patterns include free video tutorials where you can watch Helena sew the entire project step-by-step. Pause, rewind, and watch as many times as you need!

❓ What sizes are included?

Most of our children's patterns include all sizes from newborn to age 15 in ONE pattern. You buy once and can use it for years as your child grows! Adult patterns typically include sizes XS-XXL.

❓ What's the difference between A4 and A1 format?

  • A4 format: Print at home on regular 8.5x11" or A4 paper. You'll need to tape pages together to create the full pattern.
  • A1 format: Take to a copy shop for large-format printing. Fewer pages, less taping, faster assembly.

Both formats are included in every pattern - choose what works best for you!

Downloading & Accessing Patterns

❓ How do I download my pattern after purchase?

After your payment is confirmed, you'll receive:

  1. Order confirmation email with receipt
  2. Download link email (usually within 5-15 minutes)
  3. Access in your customer account - log in anytime to download

❓ I didn't receive my download link. What should I do?

First, check your spam/junk folder. If it's not there:

  • Log into your customer account - your purchases are always there
  • Check that you entered the correct email address at checkout
  • Contact us at info@sibabipatterns.com with your order number - we'll resend it immediately!

❓ How long do I have access to my patterns?

Forever! Once you purchase a pattern, you have lifetime access. Download it as many times as you need from your customer account. Lost your files? Just log in and download again!

❓ Can I download patterns on my phone or tablet?

Yes! Our patterns work on all devices - computers, tablets, and smartphones. Some sewists even prefer to view patterns on a tablet while sewing!

Printing & Using Patterns

❓ How do I print the pattern?

For A4 format (home printing):

  1. Open the PDF file
  2. Print at 100% scale (no scaling or "fit to page")
  3. Print the test square page first to verify correct sizing
  4. Cut and tape pages together following the guide

For A1 format (copy shop):

  1. Save the A1 PDF to a USB drive
  2. Take to a local copy/print shop
  3. Ask for large-format printing on A1 paper
  4. Much less taping required!

❓ The test square doesn't measure correctly. What's wrong?

Make sure you're printing at 100% scale with NO scaling. In your print settings, look for:

  • "Actual size" or "100%"
  • Turn OFF "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit"
  • Page scaling: None

❓ Can I use the pattern without printing it?

Some sewists use a projector to project the pattern onto fabric, or trace directly from a tablet screen. However, most people find printing easier for their first projects.

Fabric & Materials

❓ What fabric should I use?

Each pattern includes specific fabric recommendations! Generally:

  • Knit fabrics: Jersey, French terry, sweatshirt fleece (stretchy fabrics)
  • Woven fabrics: Cotton, linen, denim (non-stretchy fabrics)
  • Special fabrics: Softshell, fleece, minky (for specific patterns)

The pattern will tell you exactly what type of fabric works best!

❓ Where can I buy fabric?

You can find fabric at:

  • Local fabric stores
  • Online fabric shops (Fabric.com, Spoonflower, Etsy)
  • Craft stores (Joann, Hobby Lobby in USA)

❓ How much fabric do I need?

Every pattern includes a fabric requirements chart showing exactly how much fabric you need for each size. Always buy a little extra for mistakes!

Sizing & Fit

❓ How do I choose the right size?

Each pattern includes a detailed size chart with measurements. Measure your child's:

  • Height
  • Chest circumference
  • Waist circumference
  • Hip circumference (for pants)

Compare to the size chart and choose based on the largest measurement. When in doubt, size up!

❓ My child is between sizes. What should I do?

We recommend sizing up, especially for growing children. You can also blend between sizes - use one size for the top and another for the bottom.

❓ Can I modify the pattern?

Absolutely! Once you're comfortable with the basic pattern, feel free to:

  • Lengthen or shorten
  • Add pockets or embellishments
  • Mix and match pattern pieces
  • Change necklines or sleeve styles
